OF VR

Context

Virtual Reality was first thought about in 1968, however due to the lack of advancement in technology it could not progress.

Only in the past two years have we been able to fully immerse ourselves into VR, and use it in ways other than simply for an impressive gaming experience.

This method of visualisation is a great way to understand and feel what a space is like, before making any permanent building decisions (Redshift, 2019).

Use in Practices

‘83% of the Top100 architectural firms are using Enscape for Real-Time rendering and virtual reality’ (Enscape 3D, 2019) and it is said to ‘optimise work flow and presentation’ (Enscape 3D, 2019) for the firm.

However, the software requires a great deal of skill to work with, as it requires a lot of technology, resulting in some architectural firms to not invest time or money into it yet (Redshift, 2019).

Alternatively, many firms that do not have the access to virtual reality have dabbled in augmented reality. This involves viewing a 3D model through your phone, you can move the phone and interact with the view by turning 360 degrees. This is currently the more accessible method of visualising spaces in 3D (Redshift, 2019).
