Designing in VR
Why Design in VR?

Virtual Reality is developing rapidly and is being used in many different industries including Architecture. Being able to design in a virtual world allows the user to design a 1:1 replica before it is even constructed.
VRtisan is a visualisation studio that uses virtual reality for three-dimensional Architectural Visualisation. The architects use the VR Game developer software ‘Unreal Engine’ in combination with the HTC Vive Headset and controllers.
Example of use in practice

A video exhibiting how they design in virtual reality: by using the headset and the controllers he is able to intuitively create walls, doors and furniture around him.
Once the forms are created, he then adds material finishes then viewing his creation in all angles.

Quotes - experience

"In the video we try to show that you can rely on your intuitive understanding of space," Piirisild said. "You’re not taking yourself out of the space to design, as you do when you design in 2D. It allows you to immediately see the impact of your decisions regarding form, materials and so on."
"Designing within virtual reality is the next step in computer aided design, and the ways in which designing in first person from within the space can benefit the design process are numerous," - this is a statement from the studio issued with the movie.

what we do at ViSUAL RISE ARCHITECTS
With the use of the VRFree gloves by Sensory and its compatibility with the Oculus Rift, we are able to not only visualise the materiality of the space designed, but also FEEL the surroundings. This again gives a clearer and much stronger understanding of the space, leading to a great confidence with the projects that we undertake, overall creating an environment that not only the architect comprehends, but where the client can fully interact with the process of making their designs.

The combination of high specification technology plus specialised staff means that our visuals should display extremely accurate and realistic environments. This includes the ability to portray cold and snowy days in Winter; the various climates in Spring; a hot and sunny Summers day, and the falling of leaves during Autumn - the possibilities are endless.
