Demonstrating commercial viability

We need to have a strong business idea that over takes our competitors so that we can have a successful business plan.

How does our business solve a client's problem? What unique characteristic does it have?

Through the use of virtual reality, the understanding between a client and the architect will be much stronger due to the fact that the client will be able to physically see what is being designed in virtual reality rather than looking at floor plans and sections that people can often find very confusing to understand what’s going on. It also allows for less mistakes during construction and the communication between the contractor and the architect can become a lot clearer, due to the contractor being shown how the design physically looks on site before it is even built.

Our unique characteristic is that we will be able to design in virtual reality, interacting with the objects in the design. This will allow for us to work directly next to the client designing with them, this is fully immersing the client into the designing process rather then the client being given the design. We are carrying out our research to allow our clients to eventually have a more sensory experience in the virtual reality design, so that they have touch and smell the design we have created, and create an atmosphere.

What is the size and profile of the market, and why people will buy the idea?

We will initially be aiming our product towards commercial clients, as some companies are already using virtual reality to understand the details of building connections and systems. This market will help us to set up our business and allow for our initial high expenses.

However when we become a more established company we will start to reach out to clients looking to start a new build project, as this will be the best market for our product since this will allow clients to visualise their desired design in a blank plot of land.

Virtual Reality will be wanted by many clients, since with the current 2D and visual designing, architects are trying to convince the clients that the end product will look good, however with virtual reality they will be able to see the end product before it is even built.

Practicality of a product.

Virtual reality products are dropping in price, as it becomes more popular, the oculus head set that we will use in the beginning of our business is currently £399.

As virtual reality technology develops, more and more products are becoming available and earlier headsets are decreasing in price, therefore virtual reality software will become more embedded into daily lives, becoming more and ore practical.

Financially we will be spending a similar amount on these products each year as we will have to keep up to date with the new technology, however as virtual reality becomes more accessible we will be able to sell a cheaper service to more domestic clients as they may not need the full technology services that other clients might need.
